What our free water test covers
We perform secondary water testing on site. We check hardness, pH, iron, and chlorine only – the readings we need in order to recommend and correctly size a water softener, iron filter or pH neutralizer for your home.
We do not perform full panel water testing. Full panel, potability and certified laboratory analysis – bacteria, lead, nitrates, VOCs and the like – has to be carried out by a North Carolina state-certified laboratory. That is not a service we offer, and we are not able to collect samples for it.
The market is literally flooded with different types of water treatment filters. RO (reverse osmosis) systems, solid carbon block filters, loose granulated activated carbon filters, and distillers all offer clean, sparkling water, but how do you know which is best? Well, with a little research, you can find the right system for you.
- Find out the source of your water. If you get it from a well on your property instead of municipally treated water, your requirements will be different.
- Is your well water untreated or treated (chlorinated)? Chlorination kills viruses and bacteria. Good whole-house water treatment filters, which can remove chlorine completely, can be installed along with a solid carbon block drinking water system at the kitchen faucet. Chlorine is inexpensive to maintain and administer; it also keeps the entire system clean and free of other holding tank and pipe contaminants.
- Is there turbidity, dirt or other organic matter in your spring water or well? If so, a good 10 – 15 micron pre-filter will remove these chunks before they get to your faucets.
- Find out about water contaminants specific to your area. Much of this information can be found through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
